A few years ago, my friend Lindsey accepted her Pastor’s challenge to choose a life verse. Lindsey said she loved the process and suggested that our Bible Study group do the same. I was all in!!
I dug deep into the Word, made a huge list of scriptures to consider and prayed over them asking God which He would want me to choose as my guiding light.
This was the one…
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
The challenge? Trusting with all my heart!
As soon as I was old enough to understand the message, my parents warned me to be wary of strangers. It was drilled into my head to never talk with, walk with or accept gifts from strangers. The message was clear and it stuck with me! If I didn’t know you, I didn’t trust you unless and until you were worthy of my trust.
I started thinking that might have been the reason God directly pointed me to my chosen verse. If I was going to trust Him, I had to make sure I knew Him very, very well. Without knowing Him, I would never allow myself to talk with Him or walk with Him. More importantly, I would never allow myself to accept His endless gifts of love, grace and salvation.
How can we possibly trust God if we haven’t spent quality time getting to know Him?
He knows you intimately. His love for you knows no bounds. He created you in His own image. He will never leave nor forsake you. He desperately wants a deep, abiding relationship with you.
Don’t let Him be a stranger in your life!
